Blending Craftsmanship and Innovation for the Finest Leathers

At GH Leathers, we combine traditional craftsmanship with modern techniques to ensure each hide meets the highest standards of finish, performance, and usability. Working closely with a network of specialist tanneries and finishers across Europe and beyond, our process focuses on both quality and functionality.

Tanning

We supply leather produced using a range of tanning methods to suit different applications:

  • Chrome Tanning – For soft, supple leathers with excellent colour fastness and flexibility, widely used in garments and accessories.
  • Vegetable Tanning – A natural, eco-conscious process using plant-based tannins. This produces a firmer leather with rich character, ideal for small leather goods, interiors, and bespoke work.
  • Mixed or Semi-Veg Tanning – Combining the best of both worlds, offering good structure with enhanced softness and finish flexibility.

Re-Tanning & Dyeing

Once tanned, leathers are re-tanned and dyed to achieve specific colours, textures, and performance characteristics. We can offer:

  • Deep, uniform penetration dyeing for consistent colour
  • Aniline and semi-aniline finishes to preserve natural grain
  • Pigmented finishes for durability and colour uniformity
  • Suede and nubuck preparation for a clean, even nap

Finishing Processes

Finishes are applied to enhance appearance, texture, and resistance. These include:

  • Embossing – Grain effects, prints, or textures for visual and tactile appeal
  • Surface Coating – Protective finishes for water, stain, or UV resistance
  • Ironing & Milling – To soften hides or enhance grain character
  • Buffing & Splitting – Adjusting thickness and texture for specific uses
  • Gloss, Matte, or Satin Sheens – Tailored to market trends and client requests

Drying & Conditioning

Skins are dried using toggling or vacuum drying depending on the leather type, then conditioned and softened to meet required specs for flexibility, thickness, and touch.

Final Grading & Preparation

Before being stocked in our UK warehouses, each batch is inspected for consistency and performance. Skins are measured, sorted, and prepared for fast delivery or showroom display.
